Description: "On June 5, 2007, the Senate defeated, by a vote of 41-52, an amendment to the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (S.1348) offered by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), which would have required voters to present a government-issued photo ID in order to vote in federal elections. The ACLU opposed the McConnell Amendment because voter ID requirements impose an unnecessary and undue burden on the exercise of the fundamental right to vote for millions of American citizens who are eligible, registered, and qualified to vote."
