The panel Vote Report: Crowdsourcing Political Journalism will be held at 11:30 a.m on Monday, April 20th, in the Ballroom.

Description

In the weeks leading up to the election, a team of volunteer bloggers, programmers and journalists pulled together a system that would allow anyone with a phone to submit reports of voting irregularities. Vote Report, as it became known, was an open source mashup utilizing tools across the technology spectrum, from voicemail and Twitter to Google Maps and iPhones. Nearly 10,000 vote reports were submitted, allowing volunteers and NPR journalists to work together to look for voting irregularities and other notable incidents during election day, creating a new model for networked political journalism.

  • Andy Carvin - Andy Carvin is National Public Radio's senior product manager for online communities. Andy was one of the organizers behind Twitter Vote Report and InaugurationReport.com. Andy was the founding editor and former coordinator of the Digital Divide Network online community and a field correspondent for Rocketboom.
