What is the process like?

Any person can request records, although committeed and incarcerated people may have limitations. Each agency is required to designate one or more people to recieve records and post information on how to submit a request. Oral requests are fine unless the custodian does not maintain regular office hours where the records are kept. Written requests must reasonably describe the records. There is no specific deadline for response, but they must be issued "without delay". Search fees can be charged if the actual, necessary, and direct cost of locating records exceeds $50. Copying fees can be charged for the actual, necessary, and direct costs incurred.
