Stimulus 2.0

September 25, 2008 - by Donny Shaw

In the midst of a million rumors about a bi-partisan deal on a bailout, concrete details emerge of what Senate Democrats are putting in their second stimulus bill. Highlights include:

  • Unemployment insurance extension
  • Food stamps increase
  • Low income heating assistance
  • Increased Medicaid funding
  • Funds for transportation infrastructure projects

…and much, much more (see Politco for all the details).

House Speaker Pelosi said today that she will bring a similar stimulus package to the floor as early as tomorrow. We’ll update as soon s there’s a bill. In the meantime, consider this one:

H.Res.504 – Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives to require that legislation and conference reports be available on the Internet for 72 hours before consideration by the House, and for other purposes.

UPDATE: The House’s second stimulus bill:

H.R.l 7110 – Job Creation and Unemployment Relief Act of 2008

>Making supplemental appropriations for job creation and preservation, infrastructure investment, and economic and energy assistance for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2009, and for other purposes.

Take the finger-pointing out of the bill. If you put in cheap shots at the Republicans, you will not be taking responsibilty for the Democrats’ lack of action on fixing this mess.

Stop the kindergarten tactics, use the bipartisan STRATEGY of helping the unemployed by WORKING TOGETHER!!!!
