carloscabriales – I have sat across the table from a Canadian family and was told they would have to wait for months for treatment and they chose to come to America to have medical treatment. During our conversation a couple from England stated that Americans are crazy to change there system because Americans have the best system in the world.

You nailed it. You’re going to be very unpopular on this site.

President Barack Obama pushed back a visit to Capitol Hill to Saturday from today to meet with Democrats as they rally support. With the vote drawing closer, thousands of protesters gathered at the Capitol yesterday and several were arrested after entering Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office.

Folks like Carloscabriales need to quit saying that it is so good in Canada and France, if it is that good then move there and leave our health care alone. I do think the health care industry needs some work and I know this because my wife is a health care provider. It is sad to hear some of the stories she brings home about people with no insurance and they have been diagnosed with a terrible disease. Yes it needs some fixin but the joke of a government NEEDS to stay out of it and let them compete the way other businesses do. We (the majority) DO NOT WANT a socialists country like France, Russia, Canada. If they have it so good then why can’t people get treatment when they need it and not after they die. If you don’t believe please do some research and you will find that more die without treatment than those that get help only because the one’s without treatment have had to wait for months and sometimes years for the meds they need.

  • LastStand300 11/06/2009 4:12pm

I know the grass looks greener on the other side until you get there and it was just a hoax to make it look better. I do know that Canada and France have been caught lying about the number of treated patients and the cause of death. The government determines who gets treatment and when. Would you want some lazy idiot to tell you that your mom or dad can’t have the treatment that would save their life right now they will have to wait 6 months and then maybe they will get it. Now keep in mind the person that has determined they can’t have the help they need has NO medical background and they are just doing their job by following a script already written for them because they are just drones. If that is what you want then please by all means move to Russia or wherever and let your family die but please leave us alone and quit trying to push something you really don’t understand.

I think we all agree that our current system needs help. The exact changes and ensuing debate are scattered throughout the web. My biggest problem is that the people WE elected to formalize this debate are not doing their job. A change of this magnitude should be worked out with all members of Congress, not a select few. If the Democrats are struggling to get a majority 218 votes then this speaks volumes about the quality of the current bill. If the bill in question had been formulated with bi-partisan input the support would be easily garnered. The countdown to Nov 2010 has started and if an elected official has incumbent beside their name they better start looking for a new career.

Well said. If i may add, If you don’t get Obama Care you may get fined. If you don’t pay your fine you can go to jail. The government can do this to the American people the insurance companies cant.

Unfortunately, they probably won’t have to go far. I’m sure some insurance company will hire them to lobby on their behalf.

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

I call for re-education camps for white angry old people, where older Americans have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work for a Acorn charity. This will lead to a spiritual and enlighten life. Please lend me your support for this law.

Everyone here is missing the point.Passage of this bill will give the feds basic control over your body and your lifestyle. It also mandates purchase of the service under penalty of fine/tax.Do you not see the insanity of mandating participation for a service you may not want? And don’t compare this to car insurance, driving is not a right, and neither is healthcare.Yet we keep letting congress go way beyond the scope of thier duty.I’d rather die of cancer than let the feds run healthcare.Name ONE program the feds have run properly.None.

    the USPS

    1. Handles more than 43% of the world’s mail. It’s nearest competitor is Japan with only 6%.
    1. Depends exclusively on postage and fees rather than tax payer revenue for it’s operations

#Delivers more in one day than FedEx does in a year, and more in three days than UPS does in a year.

i don’t know about you but i use Netflix, every 3 days if i so choose i can get new movie from the USPS that pretty amazing to me.

when in doubt of the efficiency of America’s bureaucracy remember the case of Abdul Waheed who filed a lawsuit against Mohammad Nanhe for draining water onto his property. it came to trial in 2000 in Moradabad, India. unforunatly it was filed 39 years ago and both of them are now dead (Wheelan 56) this is not an isolated incidence by any means.

Wheelan, Charles. “Naked Economics” New York: W.W. Norton & company. 2002.

besides if the laws turns out not to work some republican will campaign to deregulate it in say 20 to 30 years.

“Postal customers want reliable, universal mail service at an economical, reasonable price. That’s what we strive to give them. And while we’re providing the best service in our history — as measured by on-time delivery scores and customer satisfaction ratings — the Postal Service is struggling to survive in the 21st century economy because it is shackled with decades-old laws.” Kenneth Schoentag, Postmaster of Colorado Springs, CO, in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Aug. 15, 2002.
Call for Help: Postal chief says agency crashing Mar 25 01:35 PM US/Eastern
WASHINGTON (AP) The financially strapped U.S. Postal Service will run out of money this year without help from Congress, Postmaster General John Potter warned on Wednesday.
“We are facing losses of historic proportion. Our situation is critical,” Potter told a House subcommittee.
The agency lost $2.8 billion last year and is looking at much larger losses this year said Potter…

I will take the Gov’t. any day over the greedy Wall Street type practice of the insurance industry. At least we can vote them out and not tolerate paying the Republcan Congress off. No more plush parties, solid gold faucets, Madoff type CEO’s. The Baby Boomers had there chance and blew it. It is time for young people to take over and make the babyboomers parents (the greatest generation) proud. (For Medicare, Social Security)It was the baby boomers that voted in Bush for 8 years of Hell. Now you want to dump Obama after 9 months. I don’t think so. Baby Boomers just go away.

Pelosi-Care” … the latest monstrous version of ObamaCare (call it the daughter of ObamaCare) may come to a hasty stealth-vote hours from the time you read this letter.

That’s because Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, is moving heaven and earth to ram this socialist takeover of our health care system down our throats before anyone has a chance to really read it. And, believe it or not, Pelosi-Care is actually worse than all the previous versions of ObamaCare. It’s a move toward government control of your health care, government domination of your life and the eradication of your God-given liberties. As economist Ben Stein pointed out on FOX News, the real goal behind Pelosi-Care is "to bring big business to its knees… and to get total social control

The American Medical Association’s much-touted endorsement of the House health care reform bill has triggered a revolt among some members who want the endorsement withdrawn.

Some members are outraged that the group’s trustees made the endorsement without the formal approval of the organization’s House of Delegates.

On Monday, delegates will vote on a resolution offered by some members that, if approved, will withdraw the AMA’s endorsement of the bill.

  • flamekeeper 11/07/2009 1:43pm

Hey Republican representatives, (yep, my party of registration) how many years did you have to submit a meaningful health care reform proposal while you sat on your reform-less rear-ends yet finding it OK to enjoy your tax-payer-paid health care and cash your tax-payer-paid checks? Too many, that how many! Now you whine and whine on the debate floor today about how HR 3962 isn’t the right bill and how you could do better. Well, OK. Then, let me ask you, “why didn’t you?” Today is a sorry day to be a Republican. To ignore my real health care needs and those of your entire constituency year after year while you, yourselves enjoy a gold-plated health care insurance plan that I and your other constituents pay for is simply immoral. Even more immoral is how today on our sacred House floor our Republican representatives act in such a unanimously polarizing fashion that it’s reasonably obvious that it’s nothing more than an “us vs. them” act of defiant egotism.

Both parties have been in power way too long. Corruption runs rampant through out these parties. It is time for a new third party to come about and restore the liberties of the people of this country.

The country doent need plurality, this country needs two sides of every issue. It needs opposition to popular and unpopular ideas. It has functioned like this for over two centuries! This duality of ideas has been the very thing that has made this country so great, it plurality. Plurality has always lead to the oppression and enslavement of the people who were at one point free.

I choose my civil liberties, I choose freedom from Government oppression.

Gentlemen and gentlewomen representatives of the GOP, it’s time for you to take your eyes off yourselves and quit whipping the flames of fear, uncertainty, and doubt among the constituency with rhetorical sound-bytes of “take-over, job-loss, socialism/communism, etc.” What you have counter-proposed is under-achieving reform, and the facts prove it. You make our fine GOP look like a bunch of bribed puppets in the back pockets of the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies. It’s time to knock of the games and the appearances of elitism. Grow up, people, and make us proud.

Friend, there’s a lot of “new world order” talk flying around on the web and the cable channels. It’s all bull designed to keep everyone in fear and tuned in to fantastical cloak-and-dagger themes. Turn off the tech, get out the door, get involved, and speak the truth.

So the corruption running rampant in Congress, and through much of the state level lawmakers is all fiction perpetrated by the web and TV? Talk about jaded. There is a rising and ever present culture of corruption in this country. Democrats AND Republicans are the corrupt parties here. Don’t be foolish in thinking that this corruption doesn’t exist.

I believe this government is overreaching and trying to grab power from the /American people. I believe HR – 3962 is un-constitutional. I believe the government cannot run health care as shown by our history and the failure of everything politics touches. I believe power corrupts and this government is the most corrupt in American history.
