This is ridiculous! Where the heck is the government reset button??

My Bill of Rights, My United States Constitutional Right!
    Let’s review:

    Amendment I

    Freedoms, Petitions, Assembly

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This Cybersecurity Bill will give the government the right to abridge( to cut short ) our freedom of speech on the internet by banning me, you … anybody they want, whenever they want! Congress men and women took a constitutional oath to protect our rights. Will they really break their oath? I hope that my United States Congress will have the wisdom to throw this bill in the trash can.

We are now in a Kleptocracy, a government of the elite, by the elite and for the elite. If they’re not busy taking our money they’re busy taking our rights and using fear to do that. Ron Paul is the only politician that makes sense and his ideas are what we need to stop this power grab. Less government, smaller banks and enforcement of existing regulations are all that’s needed. What would you do if someone were trying to rob you? Just stand there and let it happen? That is exactly what’s going on with what our Gov is doing to us, so don’t ask what can we do, ask yourself what would you do, find like minded people and get out there and organize. Can’t the While House set up a private intranet for security??!!

  • 4freespeech 02/15/2010 5:06am

It’s very simple people. In the upcoming elections, DO NOT VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!!! Both of these parties have been ruining this country for decades!!!! With the exception of Ron Paul, all of them are out for themselves and they are destroying our country!
Time to vote Libertarian. At least they understand the constitution!

One more thing, since the Bush administration they’ve discovered there is a whole lot of money they can get by stealing our rights through fear. That’s why our rights are being assaulted by bills like this one and more and more daily. It’s a national disgrace – our forefathers are turning over in their graves at these insults to such a monumental document they created that lays out the rights of all men and women and children. Do not let your rights be stolen by fear. Live not in fear. And don’t vote for the candidate that promises the most from the public treasury for you – vote for the best candidate. There is no difference between the 2 parties we now have, they’re all after largess from the Government that essentially comes from us. Seek out liberals that are in line with your views. Ron Paul is the only one that makes sense to me.

This bill sounded like a reasonable idea until I read it.

This is fascism masquerading as “protection.”

  • opuspenquin 03/12/2010 2:22pm

Unbelievable! We don’t need more Government. I think that gives the President too much power and control over cyberspace. Whatever happen to just having a really good firewall? With the budget that our Government has, they should be able to afford a really strong firewall. Sounds like we are slowly becoming more like China with all their restrictions over the info on the internet.

  • ryandsmith 03/29/2010 10:57am

I thought this bill was dead in the water but Rockefeller has found a way to get it out of committee and onto the Senate floor. Shame Shame on any senator who supports this bill! This bill allows the president to to yet one more thing outside of the rule of checks and balances. The president could shut down the internet and no one would be able to stop him. He/She would be the only person who could restore access to the net.

Most of the complaints here are much ado about nothing. They should strike the authority to declare a state of CyberSecurity Emergency. First of all, it is superfluous; the Executive branch already has the authority to declare a National Emergency and act according to the situation. Secondly, how can the President declare something that isn’t defined in this document? Strike it.

The purpose of this bill is to expedite a process that should have begun years ago. I thought the NSA was supposed to working the communications side of the street. As it is, this just establishes a procedure identifying critical information systems (both public and private), and creating a security strategy, and reporting back to congress. It also looks at developing Best Practices guidelines (ala SOX), and lays out education and public awareness programs.

This is a big deal, but it’s not the kind of big deal some people here are making it.
