Interesting little story I came across

ELKO — A man who died Dec. 28 from injuries sustained in a tent fire has been identified by city police as Mark Olson, 57.

Elko police Capt. Will Lehmann said Olson’s next of kin was contacted Tuesday.

Authorities were called Dec. 29 to a transient campsite near Errecart Bridge along the railroad tracks on a report of a man being found dead. The investigation revealed Olson had been in a tent when it caught fire. Police believe Olson’s clothing caught fire and he collapsed a few yards away.

Funny I never paid much attention to them being labeled “Transient” Here are some definitions for “Transient”

Thank you, and congrats on your success!

I still kick myself in the ass for not getting in on the “web” back around 1990. I knew it was the future. But my wife at the time told me I was crazy, and it was just a “fad”. I should have told her to leave if she didn’t like it. She ended up doing that anyways…

That is one of the first good ideas I have heard in a long time.

Thanks again :)

That is exactly what I did – went back to school for an associate degree in web development/software development. This position seems to be in high demand right now. I declared bankruptcy, sold allot of stuff, and luckily had my wife was earning some money to keep us afloat. It was a tough 3 years for me, but it really paid off. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA, landed an entry level job which pays pretty good actually. Don’t overlook this possibility of going back to school because you think you are too old. I am 45 yo, and had 3 other people in their late 50’s in my class. Everyone landed a job after graduation. It is never too late. The plus of this career is – age not a factor on hiring.

Take care, and Good luck to you

No doubt someone will call this “whining”, but it is only stating the cold hard facts that so many have to live with now, and pretending they do not exist is simply delusional.

The fact is countless former had working middle class people have been forsaken, forgotten, and left to die, so a few could get even richer, and many others don’t even give a damn at all.

And I wasn’t born into this cyber-life that so many have were, but I find it a really sad substitute for the real life I always used to have…

All there seems to be left now is fight like hell, or die.

Sorry for the long rant.

WasMiddleClass 01/03/2012 9:50pm

I spent a lifetime learning careers, and creating things that will still benefit people long after I am gone. Many of those flapping their lips never created anything other than words, or money by gambling with other peoples money. Or their job was not touched be this depression. They have no clue what it is like to try to barely survive on minimum wage. And they have no concept of what it would be like for someone going on 60, with quickly deteriorating health, and broke, to try to find a way to go back to school, lean a new career, find someone to hire them, and start all over again back where they were many decades ago, when they were young.

As I lay there for hours thinking last night I realized that unless a miracle happens my choices now are to keep breaking my back and endure the constant pain to just barely survive until I can get social security, and then live dirt poor on that until I die, or check out.

WasMiddleClass 01/03/2012 9:50pm

Four years, and there is no more light at the end of the tunnel. The only reason unemployment has gone down is because they stopped counting so many unemployed people, or they are “back to work” like I am. Most all jobs now being created are low paying, part time, and temporary ones. All talk about helping people has vanished from the media and DC. Now it is all about how much to cut. No one in any party has any plan that will actually change anything. It is either go back to what we had that gave us zero private sector job creation, or some little “stimulus” that is like throwing a couple pennies in a homeless persons cup.

I listen to what so many have to say about people in similar situations to me, like “take a bath and get a job”, “do whatever you have to to make money”, “you can live fine on minimum wage”, ”go back to school and learn a new career”.

WasMiddleClass 01/03/2012 9:50pm

Even if I am asked to do something as simple as going fishing, it is usually my truck is not on the road, or I don’t have gas money.

After all my job searching these past years I have never been able to find more than part time and temporary work. I still occasionally work a few hours for the employer I had in 2007, but the work he has now is a tiny fraction of what he had always for decades. Now I am left with using every skill I have ever learned to get part time work for less than half what I made per hour before. Much of it is backbreaking dirty work out in the cold. I have done everything I know how to survive and keep a roof over my head for four years now.

WasMiddleClass 01/03/2012 9:49pm

Now I live alone in a little room in a barn, with a hotplate to cook on, and the bathroom a hundred yards away in another building. I can’t afford to buy heat because I was too late when I applied for heating assistance in early November, because of the cuts to it, and demand increase now. I am left looking for fallen trees in the woods to cut, haul, and split to get some wood that is almost worthless for heat. A stove full of dead wood only burns for a hour or so, and I have to go outside and downstairs to keep filling it if I want heat. I am lucky to even have that because my landlord will let me slide on the rent for a long time when most will not. I have a 16 year old truck that I can’t afford to keep legal and functioning many times. There is no more enjoyment in my life. Ever day is filled with worrying how I will pay bills. Old friends that still have their good jobs don’t call anymore because I don’t live in their world any longer.

WasMiddleClass 01/03/2012 9:48pm

I have done a lot of soul searching this new year. last night I woke at 3am and laid there thinking about what my life has become until sunrise, after working in the cold all day breaking my back, spraining my wrist, and getting soaked in hydraulic fluid head to toe, just to make a few dollars. I’m posting this because I know so many others out there are in similar situations now.

In 2007 I had a decent job, money in the bank, a house where I lived with my girlfriend, two dogs, two cats, and a huge tank of tropical fish. Family. A new truck, a motorcycle, a boat, a RV, a ATV, and many “friends”. There was always endless fun things to do in my free time, but never enough time to do them all. That had been my general situation for decades.

Between then and now I lost all of the above, except one dog who is really old now and fading fast, and a RV that is ruined from trying to live in it in the winter, all because of money.

I remember when I was living in my RV a while back and had only a few stations on my TV antenna. South Park would come on every night and there was nothing else to watch. Thank God my little room in the barn now has cable!

Happy New Year to you too :)

Happy New Year, and bless you! I hope this year brings some real change.

Thumbs up on your effort to help others!

I wish I could have done what I wanted to with helping the homeless camp near me, but I ended up basically just surviving myself this holidays…

I do what I can though…

So here we are in 2012, the most prophetical year of our lives, on HR589, the final battle (lost) to help all those left out in the +4 unemployed for every job out there statistic.

HR5749 seems like yesterday. That was 2008, and things are far worse now for the unemployed…

The 99ers are history now, but the 99% (including the 99ers) is just beginning…

2012… Will the NASA predictions come true? Will we be left on our own while the elite head to all those shelters government built?

I once helped build those shelters…

I still remember when I first talked about the “camps” conspiracy theory on this site long ago and was called crazy. Then bills to fund it appeared in Congress and there was silence…

Please watch this with a open mind.

The Mayans, NASA, or how screwed up everything is now for so many…

I know 2012 will be interesting…

nancym 01/01/2012 6:44pm

Happy New Year, everyone. I hope 2012 brings many new opportunities for change and employment.

I’ve been busy with first finishing up classes, then visiting friends in Florida. At the soup kitchen where I volunteer there were extra efforts to make Christmas better for those who needed help there. The center managed to provide 140 Santa requests for the kids of families there, up from 90 last year. So that’s both sad that there were so many in need, but a triumph that we were able to fill all the requests for gifts. They even managed to find the Santa suit for pictures with the kids. And the place was stocked high with food donations.

Spent Christmas Day walking around beautiful Pelican Island in Vero Beach. Rain, ants, mosquitoes and all, it was still a great place to visit and the sun did come out by the time we went on the trails. Even spotted a few manatees on the trip; they congregate around power plants because of the warmer water and those places become known sanctuaries.

WasMiddleClass 12/31/2011 10:11pm

I have also been giving some thought about all those that think Occupy was beaten by all those storm troopers that attacked us…

All I can say is thank God for this new generation that was born with computers, and has the knowledge to take on the status quo and all their old style weapons. I often wish I was born when they were instead of a age when Pong was considered amazing when I was already growing up fast…

All those naysayers can talk all they want, but for Occupy to do what they did in only a couple months was basically unheard of before.

And 2012 is about to begin…

WasMiddleClass 12/31/2011 10:11pm

As we wait for the clock to tick into 2012, and all that will bring, I was trying to think of something good to say, but decided on the old adage of “a picture is worth a thousand words”.

These pictures speak volumes!

Even if things don’t change in my lifetime I would much rather leave this life knowing I tried to help change things, than knowing I laid down and gave up while so many others were still fighting.

Maybe we can’t elect anyone good in 2012, but we sure as hell can shine a big spotlight on the corruption in DC now, and wake more people up to the truth.

Everywhere I travel on the web these days I find people that are hurting, and sick of Washingtons games. Usually there are some from the “take a bath and get a job” “welfare (unemployment benefits) is the problem” crowd trying to kick them in the teeth when they are down with multiple insulting posts full of BS.

I have seen far more times than I can count when my friends and I stopped by and kicked the big mouths ass with facts they never have a answer to, that we heard “THANK YOU!”, “God bless you!”, “I don’t feel alone now”…

That alone makes it worth it!

Occupy the Rose Parade’s Octopus Float Is 70 Feet of Awesome (PHOTOS)

Pasadena’s annual Rose Parade is on Monday! To pre-party, we were totally planning to write about the Natural History Museum’s first-ever dinosaur float, a gorgeous menagerie of T-Rexes and long-necks. Then we got a glimpse of a beast that could swallow those wimp-osauruses whole.
We’re talking about Occupy Octopus (yes, that’s his name; yes, he’d make an amazing beanie baby), a 70-foot-long crowd puppet made entirely of recycled plastic bags. The giant sea creature will hover over a band of occupiers for their Occupy the Rose Parade march this coming Monday.

WasMiddleClass 12/28/2011 9:01pm

To expand further on that FOX poll about Occupy, let us look at some very interesting things.

On October, 7, 2011 it showed 69.08% of FOX viewers supported Occupy with 135,612 votes. A few days later, after it started getting spread around the web, over a hundred thousand votes suddenly appeared to knock Occupy down to a mere 40 something percent, and THAT was the best they could do.

So no matter how you look at it a huge percentage of FOX viewers support Occupy!

All that crap both so called sides of our media try to spoon feed us about Occupy and the Tea Party being enemies is exactly that, CRAP! The real Tea Party is not those idiots in the House that got elected to say more tax cuts ONLY for the rich while cutting all help for everyone else is the answer!

As Murdocks puppets scream their rhetoric all day long most of their own viewers don’t even believe them!

MANY are starting to see through through the old divide and conquer game…

‘Occupy is sexy’

NEW YORK – Occupy Wall Street may still be working to shake the notion it represents a passing outburst of rage, but some establishment institutions have already decided the movement’s artifacts are worthy of historic preservation.
More than a half-dozen major museums and organizations from the Smithsonian Institution to the New-York Historical Society have been avidly collecting materials produced by the Occupy movement.

Staffers have been sent to occupied parks to rummage for buttons, signs, posters and documents. Websites and tweets have been archived for digital eternity. And museums have approached individual protesters directly to obtain posters and other ephemera.

The Museum of the City of New York is planning an exhibition on Occupy for next month

WasMiddleClass 12/25/2011 6:32pm

Modern day Robin Hoods or not, they have been defending Occupys peaceful protesters against assault by thugs with weapons. Wasn’t that what Libya and the others were supposed to be about? I’m not getting into that debate, but one thing I know for sure, I would much rather be on the good side of them than the bad…

WasMiddleClass 12/25/2011 5:47pm

It’s almost time for the cyber army to deliver electronic Christmas gifts to all those out there using words like “dirty”, “lazy”, “un-American”, “criminals”, “communists”, “should all be thrown in jail”, “should all be lined up and shot”, “losers”, “scum”, “garbage”, “trash”, etc, etc…about the kind of people in the articles I posted.

It’s ironic that one on the top of list is a militia, when we have militias on our side too. They were dumb enough to think they could threaten Anonymous, and another militia, when they replied to them saying American citizens supporting Occupy “should be lined up and shot”. And they claim to defend the Constitution…

It really is amazing how much of most peoples lives exist only in cyberspace now…

WasMiddleClass 12/25/2011 4:38pm

And in the end the thing that turned this Christmas from something I was dreading into something that renewed my hope. Was reading just a small portion of the thousands of articles out there about good people trying help those in need. Even if they had little themselves they tried to help their fellow Americans after our government left them to die. Most did it anonymously not even wanting credit for it, unlike some with their charity for publicity stuff. Though greed may rule our main stream media now I know there is more good than evil out there.
