Olson was born December 9, 1962, in Fort Lewis, Wash. He graduated from Rice University in 1985 with a B.A. in computer science, and he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1988. After he passed the bar exam, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for nine years. Olson has worked on the staff of Sen. Phil Gramm and was the chief of staff for Sen. John Cornyn. Pete and his wife, Nancy, have two children.<ref name="Pete's biography">Pete Olson for Congress--Pete's Biography</ref>
